Eva Kincsei (Hungary)
Eva Kincsei has been working as an economic journalist since she graduated in 2009 after following media studies and business communication. That’s the official line. And there’s the ‘guerrilla’ one to get away from sovereign debt and mortgage loans which is writing about movies originating from times when she was attending screenplay-writing, photography and assistant director courses and taking entrance exams– unsuccessfully – to the Film Academy while doing her official university studies. Beyond all these official categories, there’s a lot more, of course.
|• Why do I write about cinema?|
It all started with Clouzot’s The Wages of Fear. The last parallel editing sequence in which Clouzot cuts back and forth between the dancers of the bar room waltzing to the Blue Danube and Mario’s ’waltzing’ to one side of the ominously narrow mountain road to the other to finally fall down into the abyss was so shocking to me at the age of 5 that I kept pondering over it for years. Then came Twin Peaks, my next very firm film experience which of course I also did not have the slightest clue - around the age of ten - what it was about. All that was followed by a teenage-addiction watching movies late into the night without my parents’ consent and dreaming about making them or writing about them at one point in my life. Lynch, Coppola, Hitchcock, Alan Parker, Truffaut, Fincher, Danish filmmakers and many others who impressed me helped to fuel this addiction further. Films can be novels, poems, even philosophical essays which could distract you from reality or make your stay here even more effective. With films, I do believe in eternal love.
