• Why do I write about cinema?

I always envied those people who knew early in their lives what they wanted to become, and put all their energy and work in achieving their goal. When someone asks me, what I’m interested in, I give a whole list of interests and fields of activity. A couple of years ago all the bits and pieces my previous experiences and learning started adding up in this versatile world of films and the reflections that I seek.

Films inspire me like no other media, for the endless potentials in content and style, for the complexity that these hold. Reconstructing a film’s visual and cognitive layers through the textures of words is both a challenge and a great opportunity for creative and inventive thinking. I started writing about film almost accidentally. It was so easy judging and criticizing other film critics’ work, I figured I must try how it all works. So when a friend of mine – who also happens to be one of the editors at Filmtett – did some favor to me, I said : I’m so grateful, that I’ll write a film review for your magazine as a sign of my gratitude. The spontaneity of this beginning brought instinctive buoyancy in my approach that later on shifted towards uncertainty in this process of learning by doing. Now, when writing, I am balancing between trying to be professional and personal, creative and elegant, efficient and thorough at the same time. This is a hard but also wonderful game.
