Bruno Carmelo (Brazil)

I was born and raised in Brazil, where I got a Licence degree in cinema, mostly for all the technique and the practical aspects of distribution and film production. Because of the lack of real reflexion on movies and cinema itself, I’ve been in France since 2007, where I did my Masters on sociology of film criticism (and the formation of aesthetic taste in particular). Now I’m doing a doctors on film criticism again, but this time on the philosophy of aesthetic taste.

• Workshops
Cannes 2009, IDFA 2010

• Why do I write about cinema?
I write about cinema because I think written language is the best way to try to organise all the feelings and sensations we experience through the movies. The translation from the moving image to words is a fundamental effort to understand cinema itself
