"You will be travelling in a car over a bridge”, she says. First thing to do on a filmfestival in Adana, Turkey? Have a cup of thick, sweet, coffee, and then ask someone to tell your fortune in the grounds. ”I can’t see where the journey ends though”, Sera continues, ”but there is a man in a hat lurking around in the dark.”
She says she doesn’t really know how to tell fortunes. That she is only guessing, looking for shapes in the brown mud and making it all up, like seeing stories of giant rabbits riding five-legged unicorns in the clouds. But she was right about the travelling in cars over bridges. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve crossed the bridges over the calm and majestic Seyhan River floating through Adana, in one of the festival cars rushing between film screenings and kebab dinners.
The man in a hat didn’t show up yet, but I met Czech actor Jan Budar lurking around in the sunny hotel lobby. He plays a mysterious polish construction worker in the opening film of the festival, Javier Rebollo’s Woman without piano.
”You’re either gonna love it or hate it”, he said. ”If you love it, we can arrange for an interview, but if not, don’t bother”.
So? He was right. It’s a beautiful film if you ask me, but half of the audience didn’t seem to agree. Coming up next: An interview with Jan Budar.
