At the exhibition you see what has been promised : still images of moving pictures, set-photographs and portraits of actors. Wim Wenders is first of all presented as filmmaker and secondary as photographer. The focus is on the photos from the movies and therefore just shows an extract of Wim and Donata Wenders’ work. The characteristic pictures that tell stories of people and the landscapes they live in, taken by Wim Wenders while passionately travelling, are unfortunately missing.
The exhibition is an analysis, even more a document, of his style and mise-en-scène of the actors. Nevertheless new perspectives on the movies are lacking. Portraits of famous actors dominate the selection. The missing references to the characters’ environment, that used to be irreplaceable in Wenders’ stories, reduce the intensity and better understanding of the photos. All together these pictures seem unrelated - without the knowledge of the movie.
